Humankind are insects living on the surface of the water, unaware of its true depths and denizens. That is until something rises and upends their whole world. Their very nature disrupts the perceived natural order and their needs can lead to deadly conclusions for anyone in its path. These forces and beings are supernatural in nature and as such have their own rules and goals that may seem strange or inconsequential, but are as necessary for them as air is to us. It may not even be predatory, but what it is doing or what it leaves behind in its wake is too dangerous for the cast to simply ignore. It can be dealt with though. Insight can be gained, necessities can be tracked down, and a ritual can be performed to deal with the threat before it wreaks too much havoc. The ones caught up in the maelstrom just need to do it in time before its too late. 

Ritual is an asymmetrical, supernatural thriller game about a group of characters getting wrapped up in a deadly supernatural event and the only way to escape it is to perform/interfere with some type of ritual that will bring about the best possible end for the cast. The player characters are all regular people who didn’t know the supernatural actually existed until they found themselves caught up in it. Now they must track down every lead they can while contending with their new, bizarre reality and the dangers it throws at them. 

Instead of using dice, this game utilizes a deck of playing cards and a standard set of 28 dominoes. The dominoes are mainly used by the players when taking an action and the cards are mainly for the Messenger to use to flavor the action and use their abilities.
